from Rita So if we did this website thing correctly, you're coming to this page already knowing what Dear Diary is, why we're doing it and who is running it. But what you're probably still fuzzy on is what the hell 'Our Diary' is... and rightfully so. I would be confused too if someone randomly linked me to something that I was supposed to read up 'til 18 October. There's a lot you could do with that amount of time. Like finally get to watching The Night Of somewhere because Riz Ahmed won an Emmy and we should all care (and not just because he is one of the Internet's many boyfriends)... Or finally put on the laundry because God knows when the last time you did that was (and I am not just speaking for myself...) Or watch Bake Off? I don't know... things could be worse than Noel Fielding being discount Sue Perkins... Or, you know, doing what I'm doing right now and just having a fun troll around the Internet for fun gifs.
But yes, we're asking you to (just for a tiny bit) step away from the laundry, step away from the Bake Off, step away from the gifs, and (I can't even believe I'm saying this) step away from Riz Ahmed. Because we want you to read Our Diary. Dear Diary is an event that is driven by stories. Marbles Magazine promotes people to explore, dissect and explode the stigma around mental health through the stories of people who live through it. Young Saheliya is a charity that encourages young girls and women to own their personal experiences and tell their stories – taking charge of their own life and mental health. Poetry Circus is all about exploring every aspect of life through the art of poetry. And Another Helping is all about communities coming together with the charities in their own backyards and becoming part of the same, enriched narrative. Our Diary is a 30-day blog challenge where we tell our own stories, as well as the stories of those involved in making Dear Diary happen. There'll be something everyday, and it'll be different. Poetry, rants, actual decent think pieces. You name it. Many will come from Rita Faire and Kirstyn Smith, but we also have a fantastic lineup of guest bloggers who will talk about mental health, issues of identity, feelings of displacement and detachment... or... you know, cups of tea if we're really having a bad day. They could be funny, they could be sad, they could be weird... or they could just be full of gifs of Riz Ahmed... because why the hell not? Our point is that all experiences are valid. All stories are valid. Express them, share them. And now for more Riz.
