from Rita
So we sent Marbles off to the printer today! Yes, I will have that glass of wine, thank you very much. This magazine has been such a privilege to layout not just because it was a treat to design (and Kirstyn gave me free reign... which is rare!) but it also allowed me to read the articles ahead of time! In this blog, I just wanted to share some of my favourite pull quotes featured in the articles and give you a little taste of what's to come! If you haven't already pre-ordered Marbles then do! And we'll see you all next week at Dear Diary!

How can I discuss discrimination with you
when you, who don’t experience it, want me to be calm and collected. Crying. Screaming. Not allowed. Emotions invalidate my case. Emotions water down my argument. “Leave feelings out of this” “Now is not the time to be emotional” “You’re too sensitive” And when I do say something you hurt me. “Maybe they didn’t mean it that way” “Are you sure you’re not interpreting it wrongly” “There are always two sides to a story” Gaslighted. Ignored. Erased. You want me to be neutral. How can I be neutral when I am affected? You want me to be objective. How can I be objective when I am the target? Now, it’s my turn to ask you a question. Why do you think you are neutral? Why do you think you are objective? I won’t even wait for the answer I’ll give it to you. You’re not neutral. You’re not objective. No one is. Sinead Anja Hering is a Publishing postgraduate at Napier University, who also runs a diverse book blog. from Kirstyn Hello #OurDearDiary pals. We have been a wee bit silent recently, but there's a very good reason behind it. As editor (Kirstyn) and designer (Rita) of Marbles, we've been buzzing away putting together the finishing touches to issue number two. You'll have seen from our contributors announcement the other day that the calibre of writers we're getting to feature is remarkably strong - not to mention the wonderful interviewees (some of whom are still under wraps - you've gotta keep some secrets). We apologise for being slightly afk in passing days. We'll be back on your screen with more blogs and contributors - including something from our lovely event curator, Max Scratchmann of Poetry Circus, very very soon.
Plus, it's World Mental Health Day tomorrow. We'll definitely have something to say then. (We hope). from Kirstyn This is a short, but sweet blog to say happy birthday to my awesome Dear Diary pal, Rita! Back tomorrow with fewer gifs (maybe).
from Kirstyn In less than two weeks our Dear Diary event will be over, and Marbles #2 will be launched. It’s an exciting time, but there’s still so much to do. Since, as well as co-hosting the Dear Diary night, Rita is also designing the second issue of Marbles, we’ve been bustling away to get the mag put together by next week’s deadline. It’s been a joy and an honour reading through all the amazing pieces we get to feature, and, as a special sneak peek, we thought it would be lovely if we announced the Marbles #2 contributors list today.
